Elisabeth and her late husband Tom Brownell built the Chalet in 1968 at it's prime location in the heart of Taos Ski Valley (only a 2 minute walk to the main lift).

Elisabeth continues to offer her warm hospitality to guests at the Brownell Chalet, a unique Bavarian home with great views of the slopes. She shares her enthusiasm for skiing and the mountain.

Elisabeth also pursues other interests like Tango dancing, windsurfing, biking, hiking, traveling and studying languages.

Meet Elisabeth and Her Family

Live-in Owner Elisabeth Brownell is featured in Taos Ski Valley's famous book Ski Pioneers and offers warm hospitality to guests at the Brownell Chalet. Some guests have been returning every year for over 40 years.

Elisabeth herself worked for the Taos Ski Valley founder Ernie Blake in 1962 for two winters and here met her late husband Tom Brownell. In 1968 newly married Tom and Elisabeth bought the historical Thunderbird Lodge and built this chalet during the beginnings of Taos Ski Valley.

Elisabeth shares her wealth of knowledge of Taos Ski Valley, its history, her enthusiasm for skiing and her love of the mountains.

Elisabeth speaks English, German and French, as well as a bit of Spanish.

Elisabeth's son, Christof is an accomplished musician and performs occasionally at the Hotel St. Bernard as a Band with One Man. He currently plays throughout New Mexico and Colorado.
